Not Another Japanese Restaurant

BY MOLLY FORGANG

Though some see the recent influx of Japanese restaurants on Mamaroneck Ave. as redundant and even a bit overwhelming, there is one new establishment that seems to rise above the rest.

Gin Ban, a modern, New York City-style Asian fusion restaurant, combines a chic atmosphere with great food and affordable prices.

The menu offers a variety of unique dishes, such as tuna tortilla pizza and mouth-watering, one-of-a-kind “Fancy Rolls.” The unique cuisine complements the contemporary décor, as the restaurant is embellished with Egyptian-like stone walls, a turquoise-illuminated bar and plush, luxurious chairs at every table.

For those who enjoy traveling to the city for a touch of chic, the urban atmosphere of Gin Ban simply makes you forget that you are in suburbia.

Not all are wooed by the ambience, however. Junior Adina Bauman, for one, believes that Gin Ban is not as genuinely trendy as some may believe. “It is overly decorated, trying a little too hard to be hip,” she said.

Although the service could be faster, pumping club mixes of Lady Gaga, the Black Eyed Peas and The Pussycat Dolls provide ample distractive entertainment. The prices of dishes range from $4.50-$24.95, allowing for a great meal no matter your budget. Gin Ban definitely adds a modern edge to Larchmont/Mamaroneck, and it provides a fantastic dining experience for teens, adults and families alike.
