Many successful and talented artists have graduated from Mamaroneck High School over the years, and that’s no wonder, due to MHS’ fantastic music and art programs. These individuals include Kevin Dillon and Joan Rivers, and the list only gets bigger. There is a wide array of students, and seeing their faces, for any reason, on the big screen only goes to show the true talent that exists in the halls of MHS.

MHS has recently enjoyed one of these star-stuck moments. Chloe English, an MHS graduate from the Class of 2007, made an appearance on NBC’s reality TV show, “The Sing Off.”

The show launched in the winter of 2009 and is currently on its third season, which began in September and is expected to have its finale on Nov. 28. The show is hosted by Nick Lachey and the judges are famous singers/songwriters who began their careers in the a capella field, including Ben Folds, Shawn Stockman and Sarah Bareilles.

Each season features 16 a capella groups from across the country, many based at colleges and universities. Each week, one group is eliminated based on votes from viewers. The grand prize is $200,000 and a recording contract with Sony Music.

During her time at The University of Delaware, English was part of a 15-member a capella group called “The Deltones.” The group sang a variety of songs, including hits such as “The Edge of Glory” by Lady Gaga and “Listen to Your Heart” by Roxette. Unfortunately, English and her group were eliminated on Oct. 17 after a five-episode stint on the show.

Although The Deltones are no longer in the competition, it is extremely exciting that they made it so far. Good luck to English and her teammates in their future singing endeavors!
