ABC’s new series “V”premiered
Nov. 3. Based on a science-fiction miniseries dating back to 1983, “V”was
remade by executive producers Scott Rosenbaum, Scott Peters and Jace Hall.
“V” is about a technologically
advanced group of extra-terrestrials who come to Earth “in peace” but actually
have sinister plans in mind. The alien spaceships land on 29 major cities of
the world. The alien leader, Anna, closely resembles a charming woman. A group of FBI counter-terrorists discovers
that the “Visitors,” as the aliens are called, have been infiltrating human
businesses, governments and religious institutions for years and are in the
final stages of taking over the world.
The main character, Erica Evans,
played by Elizabeth Mitchell, is one of these FBI agents. Evans joins one of
the aliens, named Ryan (Morris Chestnut), who acts as a spy trying to save
humanity. However, they might be too late. The aliens have won favor amongst
the human race by curing many diseases, bringing controversial technological
advancements and recruiting young people, including Evan’s son Tyler, as what
humans think are “Peace Ambassadors,” who are really serving as spies to the
aliens.
The pilot episodeattracted
14.3 million viewers, receiving a rating of 5.2 among people ages 18-49, the
highest rating out of any new TV show this fall. ABC is only airing 4 episodes,
but if the ratings for the next few episodes stay high, the new series will
come back starting with the fifth episode in March.
So far, the series has been deemed a
success. “V” has attracted many viewers by showing countless enticing previews.
The show has been able to keep these viewers interested by ending episodes with
a mystery to be solved later, an effective tactic which leaves viewers
intensely excited for the next episode.
