5 Artists to watch out for in 2012

Clams Casino
Blurring the frontiers between genres, Clams Casino composes heavy yet ethereal tracks that have made him famous among taste-maskers and cool-diggers. Twisting earthy textures with ghostly vocal samples, this New Jersey producer is reminiscent of masters of the quiet-then-loud productions of Four Tet and Burial.

A$AP Rocky
Straight out of Harlem, this young emcee brings the up-and-comer spotlight back to the East Coast. Unabashed, he is unafraid to be raw when speaking of his Harlem reality. The self-proclaimed fashionista’s mixtape “LiveLoveA$AP” is considered one of the best releases in hip-hop this year. Don’t be surprised when you hear as much of him on the radio as you do Drake. Jeremiah Jae
The newest member of producer Flying Lotus’ record label, “Brainfeeder,” emcee Jeremiah Jae mixes a variety of urban sounds with soulful voices, mastering a new take on the art of rap. A soul-searching rapper, he looks for answers to universal questions within himself. He is not afraid to be unpopular among the masses if it means he’s remaining true to himself. The young Chicago native has performed throughout Europe as well as here in the U.S., and has been widely acclaimed by audiences and his contemporaries. If you enjoy Teebs and Flying Lotus, you’ll quickly become a fan of Jeremiah Jae.

Shlohmo
With an array of snappy and trippy beats, framing twists of soothingly reviving tones, 22 year old L.A. hip hop producer, Shlohmo, entices us with several EPs and a new album that are hard to stop listening to. A good place to start is the track “Big Feelings,” off his recently released album: “Bad Vibes.” His innovative beats bring to mind artists such as: Flying Lotus, Teebs and Samiyam.

Every
Reminiscent of electronic veteran Aphex Twin’s early sounds, Every’s music stages a masterful blend of heavy beats and swift hits on the turntable. With traces of melancholy guitar plucking, the Providence based twenty-three year old producer creates textured atmospheres that are eerie, alluring and nostalgic. Be sure to check out both albums: “Scant Cursory” and “Halley Con.”
