2011 was a very exciting year for the film industry. There were many blockbuster hits like “Transformers: Dark of the Moon,” “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part I” and “The Hangover Part II.” Sadly, I didn’t get the chance to see any of those movies! But, I will tell you my three favorite movies from this past year.

We all know about the one hit wonders. Vanessa Carlton, The Temper Trap and countless others all seem to have one hit, while the rest of their songs fail commercially. But what about all the great tunes that just don’t seem to become successful? Here’s a guide to some of the best unheard pop songs today:

Many successful and talented artists have graduated from Mamaroneck High School over the years, and that’s no wonder, due to MHS’ fantastic music and art programs. These individuals include Kevin Dillon and Joan Rivers, and the list only gets bigger. There is a wide array of students, and seeing their faces, for any reason, on the big screen only goes to show the true talent that exists in the halls of MHS.

A new great hit out this fall in theaters is Money Ball, starring Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill. This film, based on the book by Michael Lewis, is about one of the great new stories in baseball. The basis of the book is the true story of the Oakland baseball Athletics’ General Manager, Billy Beane, and his new approach to managing a team.

As summer approaches, students’ desire for the school year to end increases exponentially. Few want to be sitting inside studying when fun could be had outside with friends. Unfortunately, finals are just around the corner and we must hold off on our summer celebrations until the tests are finally over. And because of the lure of the nice weather, we must employ strict study habits to make sure that our focus remains on the books.

The first thing juniors and seniors often ask themselves in the morning before first period: “Where should I park?” This question determines when students should wake up, how early they have to leave their house and whether or not they will be late to first period.

This year’s “Musical Collage,” “From Cradle to College,” chronicled a child’s life from birth to high school graduation. The show included both quirky scenes and more serious acts, accurately portraying a teenager’s life. The production began with the birth of a child and progressed into those awkward middle school years and eventually high school.

Mamaroneck High School is lucky enough to have a tremendous number of arts and performing arts groups. Some of these groups are entirely student run and directed and have performed at various school-wide events throughout the year. One of these groups, and one of MHS’ favorites, is Krazii Kr3w.

As daydreamers at Mamaroneck High School began receiving the first of many Regents-preparation packets, students in AP courses spent the first two weeks of May taking their final exams. In the eyes of numerous seniors, these final exams signify their education at MHS coming to a close. With the pressures of studying now a thing of the past, 12th grade AP students are eager to embrace more relaxing classes, for a change, as they finish their last month of seniority at Mamaroneck High School.
Beginning on March 10, Mamaroneck High School’s Semi-Royal Shakespeare Company will host yet another great season of the Bard’s plays. This year, the company will put on three performances each of “Twelfth Night” and “King Lear.”
